INTRODUCTION OF MENTORING AND CAREER GUIDANCE PROGRAM FOR JHS STUDENTS
“MEET YOUR OLD BOYS/OLD GIRLS”
If you talk to Junior High School Students you often get the impression that they have very little or no idea about a perspective in life and therefore they don’t know why they are in school or why they should learn. We want you to help us to change that attitude.
We look for Old Boys/Old Girls from schools within Wurupong/ Biakoye District who were successful in school and who are successful in their vocation/ profession . We want them to share their experience of success with JHS students. How were they able to reach where they are today? How did they overcome obstacles and problems? How did they organize their learning?
If you are ready to participate in this program, how do you go about it?
Call the Nkonyaman Foundation , or the School Management Committee, or one of the Head teachers of the Basic Schools (find attached some contact numbers ) and arrange for a date and time to speak to the students.
Suggested Content
1. Introduce yourself, the Basic school you attended, your vocation/profession, where you work today. Give a short description of your work, what are you expected to know and do at your workplace.
2. When did you “wake up”? When did you understand that school and learning is important? May be there is a story to narrate, how did you develop interest in a subject or interest in learning in general?
3. How did you organize your learning? Did you face obstacles/problems? How did you overcome the problems?
4. Optional: Some general advise on learning and career building.
5. Optional: Steps in the educational system necessary for your profession. Advice for students who wish to go into that profession.
6. Allow students to ask questions and answer them.
The whole function should end latest after 45Minutes (Maximum of 30 Minutes for item 1 to 5,)
